“Orizuru Hiroshima” is an organization that has obtained corporate status of a nongovernmental NPO (Non-Profit Organization).
Orizuru Hiroshima aims to contribute to World Peace by implementing projects of reusing Orizuru (Paper Cranes) sent to Hiroshima from all over the world as part of peace movements.
We cannot grow peace-oriented people without turning each of our own cultures into peaceful ones. Culture must play a role of nursing wealth of spirit and minds with greater latitude. Through “Cultural Exchange Activities”, which allow people to recognize deeply their own culture and the differences between their culture and others,’ together with children, we grow “Minds loving their own home country” and expand such a network finally to foster “Spirits loving the world.”
① To recycle Orizuru (paper cranes) sent with a wish for peace.
＊ We will turn Orizuru into recycled paper and from them produce useful things such as name cards, postcards, notebooks, Karuta, traditional Japanese playing cards and so on.
② To pass the Japanese culture and the local cultures on to the next generation.
＊ We introduce Japanese culture to the world by teaching how to make Orizuru correctly and others.
＊ We invite the public to contribute poems for “Karuta” (playing game cards) and then make Karuta cards from recycled papers to convey the culture by cooperating with people in the educational field.
③ To nurse harmony between one’s own nation and the world in the minds of each person by way of cultural exchange activities.
To help people in various countries and regions make their own “Local Karuta” and introduce them on our homepage.
＊ We hold some events related with peace and culture.( e.g. “Karuta rally”)
＊ We support children who will visit Hiroshima by introducing host families to them and so on.
④ To expand the scope of our activities of “Orizuru Hiroshima” by soliciting ideas about reusing Orizuru and so on through the Internet.
